Project Overview:

M Group Services wanted to obtain visibility of all waste being produced in-house and by their subcontractors. In order to maintain full control, the decision was made to manage waste in-house in partnership with Reconomy Connect regardless of how/who produced it using Reconomy Connect’s experience and infrastructure across the UK through various disposal/tipping locations – using the Tipping App, a geo-fencing smartphone app owned by Reconomy that gives immediate access to tonnages and other critical waste data via the Reconomy Portal.

Using Reconomy Connect gave them the instant win that all waste was now being managed in a legally compliant manner. Ensuring suppliers operate in a safe and compliant manner with the necessary documentation to handle the waste streams that would be tipped such as EA permits, licenses, insurances etc. Our strategic direction resulted in taking the use of recycled materials from 19% to over 90% in under 5 years. Proving our long-standing partnership’s success. We then investigated ways in which we could monitor and reduce carbon produced. We implemented the DEFRA calculation and worked on moving to recycled aggregates, stocking aggregates in tip location and using technology to map optimal routes for tip and collection.

Key Stats:

  • 90% use of recycled material
  • 43% per tonne of recycled materials saved
  • 18.5% reduced disposal costs
  • 37.5 miles saved on fuel and time

Taking ownership of waste and bringing the management of it in house allowed M Group Services to obtain full control of their waste and what happened to it, this allowed them to fulfil their duty of care, have legally compliant paperwork, drive down carbon footprint and use quality recycled materials for maximum financial and environmental benefit.
