Coffey Construction
Over 0 tonnes of contaminated water removed
Recycled 0% of waste water
Over 0 tanker movements in 2 months
Background
In July 2025, Coffey Construction approached Reconomy Connect with an urgent and complex waste management challenge. A large volume of contaminated water stalled progress at the Severn Trent Clean Water site in Strensham, halting vital construction work. Previous attempts to resolve the issue through existing channels had failed. Coffey Construction needed a fast, compliant, and sustainable solution to remove the waste and resume operations, without compromising the strict environmental controls in place at the site.
Recognising the urgency, we swiftly reviewed the waste classification data and mobilised a representative to the site within 24 hours. Utilising our network of 1,700 supply partners, we identified a viable solution and deployed services just three days later. Over the following two months, we coordinated the movement of 170 tankers (at times up to 10 per day) ensuring consistent and efficient waste removal.
Objectives
The primary goal was to efficiently and responsibly remove contaminated water to allow critical construction work to continue. The waste stream was complex due to site restrictions, logistics, and the need to uphold high environmental standards. Key objectives included:
- Rapid mobilisation of services
- Safe, compliant waste handling on a clean water site
- Ensuring zero disruption to the wider project schedule
- Delivering a 100% recycling rate for the waste water
Challenges
- Time Sensitivity: The site was at a standstill. Delays risked significant programme disruption.
- Logistical Complexity: Operations on a clean water site required dedicated, sanitised tankers.
- Volume of Waste: Daily removal requirements ranged from 6 to 10 loads, demanding agile and flexible resource coordination.
- Site Constraints: Limited end destination opening times and high daily volumes required a dynamic scheduling strategy.
Methodology & Implementation
To meet the demanding timeline, we deployed a dedicated account co-originator to liaise directly with site teams and coordinate with our trusted supply chain partner, Anderson Waste.
Key actions included:
- On-site assessment within 24 hours of enquiry
- Rapid scheduling of services via a mix of tankers and arctics to meet daily volumes
- Dedicated truck turnaround procedures to prevent cross-contamination
- Flexible response capability, adapting waste movements daily based on site needs and disposal availability
This fast-tracked, collaborative approach ensured Coffey Construction could maintain momentum on-site, overcoming what had previously been a critical barrier
